Trustico® has operated several ordering systems over the years. This website is now where all ordering takes place, and the previous systems are retained for viewing historical records only.

The menus on this website are the fastest way to find what you need, covering ordering, validation, reissuing, management and the changes described below. Everything published here is written for the way SSL Certificates work today.

This page explains what changed, what happened to information held on a previous system, and how to place an order now.

Reasons This Process Changed

Industry regulations have shortened how long an individual SSL Certificate may remain valid, and that has simplified rather than complicated what you need to do.

The whole process is now three steps. Purchase a license, complete validation to prove you have authority to use it, then manage the SSL Certificates issued under it.

Older platforms carried methods built around a different way of working. Those methods are no longer needed, which is why the systems that housed them are not either.

Ordering From This Website

Placing an order requires no preparation. You do not need to create an account first, because one is created automatically during the ordering process if you do not already have one.

The range available here goes beyond what the previous systems offered. Certificate as a Service (CaaS) did not exist on them at all, along with several other products added since. Explore Every SSL Certificate Available 🔗

Pricing on some of the traditional products is also lower here than it was on a previous system, so an equivalent order can cost less than it did before.

Account Purpose Explained

An account is never required to purchase, or to replace an expiring license. Every request is regarded as a new license in its own right, so nothing needs to be looked up or carried forward.

Attempting to sign in where no account exists simply creates one, so there is no separate registration step to complete beforehand.

An account exists for invoicing and billing on behalf of the person placing the order, and for nothing else. It is not where SSL Certificates are managed.

Signing Into Your Account

Where you already hold an account, sign in before ordering so that any special pricing applied to that account is reflected at checkout.

Tip : Signing in first is the only way to see your own pricing before you reach the checkout.

Forgetting to sign in does not lose the order. It is matched to your account using the e-mail address supplied, so an SSL Certificate always appears in the correct account either way.

Replacing Expiring Licenses

An expiring license is not extended or carried forward, despite how the process is often described elsewhere. Replacing a traditional license means submitting an order for a new one, exactly as you would order for the first time.

On a Certificate as a Service (CaaS) product you purchase an extension instead, which continues the existing subscription rather than creating a new one.

Either way there is no record to retrieve and no prior order to reference, which is what allows ordering to work without an account.

Eligibility Affects Every Issuance

Holding a license does not by itself mean an SSL Certificate will be issued. Each one is issued only where the applicant holds the license and remains eligible at that moment.

Important : An applicant may become ineligible during the license period for a number of reasons. Eligibility is assessed each time an SSL Certificate is issued, rather than once when the license is purchased.

This is why validation is repeated rather than performed once, and why keeping your domain control and organization details current matters throughout the period.

With a traditional license, meaning any SSL Certificate that is not a Certificate as a Service (CaaS) product, you complete that validation yourself each time.

On a Certificate as a Service (CaaS) subscription it happens seamlessly, because your client completes each validation as part of requesting the replacement.

Managing SSL Certificates Already Ordered

Management happens in one of two places, depending on which kind of license you hold. Neither of them is an ordering system, and no management portal is involved.

A traditional license is managed in the tracking system, which covers completing validation, changing the validation method, resending approval e-mails, downloading the issued files and requesting a reissue. Learn About The Tracking System 🔗

A Certificate as a Service (CaaS) product is managed entirely at your end by your own Automatic Certificate Management Environment (ACME) client, or through our hosted issuance tool where a client cannot be run. Learn About The Hosted Issuance Tool 🔗

Watching Your Expiry Dates

Watching expiry dates is the responsibility of the person holding the license, and the reason is practical rather than a matter of policy.

During the license period you may issue and reissue as many SSL Certificates as you want. We therefore hold no record of which ones you have installed, or what dates those carry.

On a Certificate as a Service (CaaS) subscription you also choose which licensed names each SSL Certificate covers. They do not all have to be issued, and they may be issued in any combination.

We always send license expiration notices, though the SSL Certificates issued during the period remain yours to manage. That distinction matters, because an SSL Certificate expires long before the license does.

Certificate as a Service (CaaS) removes most of that burden, because a replacement is requested automatically whenever one is needed while the subscription remains licensed.

Certificate as a Service Recommended

For that reason we now recommend Certificate as a Service (CaaS) as the replacement for traditional SSL Certificates. The management difficulties that once made automation impractical have largely gone.

You can run your own Automatic Certificate Management Environment (ACME) client, operate a centralized client within your environment, or use a hosting control panel or server already set up to accept Certificate as a Service (CaaS) SSL Certificates. Explore Certificate as a Service 🔗

Reasons Your Records Remain Elsewhere

Information from the previous systems has not been carried across, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight.

Every order has always been treated as a new order in its own right, whether it replaced an existing SSL Certificate or secured something new. Each one carries its own processing, validation and management within the system it was placed in.

The regulations also require a more hands on approach. You are expected to know what you hold, when it is valid, and what actions keep it secure and compliant during the license period, none of which historical data helps with.

Historical records remain viewable within the system that holds them. Anything active belongs here instead.

Where you hold a Trustico® Prepaid Credit balance on a previous system, that balance can be transferred here on request so it is not stranded.

Important : Do not use a previous system to place an order, to manage an SSL Certificate you already hold, or to reach current tools and pricing.
